The Brief
This clinic group was looking to expand the area they serve, they identified a building just outside Thame in Oxfordshire.
The building itself was an old barn which meant care had to be taken in the design process to maximise the space without compromising the heritage structure.
We also had to take into account some rooms had low ceiling and there were limited windows
The Solution
It took a little while to agree a design as certain elements of the building could not be altered, in addition we had limited wastewater outlets to work with and each of the consulting rooms needed hand washing facilities.
There were 3 separate rooms that could be used for consultants with some storage space located on a mezzanine floor along with a sizable landing. It was agreed that one of the rooms was to be split allowing for a small reception area to be formed.
We had to design the reception in such a way that patients had space to sit and there was adequate room for reception desk with a PC and a printer close by.
Supplementary space was identified in the entrance lobby and the first floor landing area for some individual seating.
The Outcome
Despite the space being compact the consultancy rooms have worked out well in terms of size.
The general feel of the building with its rustic looks combined with the art and flower arrangements makes you feel like you are in a calm and relaxing space, which is ideal for patients and staff.
We were delighted to work in the compact area to maximise the space and requirements that the client needed in order to create a pleasant environment.
